200th ANNIVERSARY

First Presbyterian Church celebrated its 200th Anniversary in 2020. We kicked-off the celebration with a luncheon on Sunday, August 25th. Our special Anniversary Service and Luncheon originally scheduled for May 3rd, 2020 was rescheduled for Sunday, November 1, 2020, at 3:30 p.m. We gathered on the front lawn of the church (in front of the Sanctuary) for a brief service which included filling our time capsule and ringing the church bell (for the first time in many years).

Want to contribute to our time capsule and leave a message for the future church? We encourage everyone to bring a letter or small object. This time capsule was mostly filled at our celebration but we will leave it open for another week to collect anything else. Then it will be locked away to be opened again in 2070 for the 250th Anniversary. You can bring your item now to the church office.

Enjoy this video of our 200th Anniversary Celebration Service on November 1, 2020. This video includes the full service along with some pictures from the event during the prelude and postlude.

  • history book

    G. Ward Hubbs put together a fabulous history book for FPC's 200th anniversary. It is called "Since 1820 Service Christ from the Heart of Tuscaloosa." We have a copy available (for free) for each family at FPC. If you were not at the celebration service in November to pick up your copy, drop by or contact the church office to get your copy now.

  • DEVOTIONAL CALENDAR

We also created a flip-type daily devotional calendar that includes members' favorite scriptures and hymn verses in honor of FPC’s 200th Anniversary. We requested submissions from all members...young and old...to include. Each family received one free copy and extras were available for purchase.

FPC was founded on May 6, 1820. On May 6, 2020, we we're able to celebrate together in person due to health concerns and restrictions around the world... but we celebrated with some special memories of our favorite times, groups, gatherings and places around the church.
