WELCOME TO FPC

First Presbyterian Church is part of the PC (USA). We strive to connect, grow, and serve with those inside our congregation, in our community, and around the world. We are involved in countless missions here in the heart of Tuscaloosa, much of West Alabama, and throughout the globe.

Founded in 1820, FPC celebrated its milestone 200th anniversary in 2020. The celebration wasn't quite as large and amazing as we hoped due to a global pandemic, but we still made a point to gather and celebrate the many ways the Lord uses FPC.

We have active children's and youth programs, and we host the UKirk student ministry catering to students at the University of Alabama. Our "mature members" are also quite active with several local excursions and even some overnight travel each year.

  • What we believe

In making decisions, Presbyterians listen to each other, to the Bible, and to the church’s Constitution. Presbyterians stress the importance of a unified body of Christ.  We are one body because God has called us together in Jesus Christ...

  • history

First Presbyterian Church in Tuscaloosa was organized, one year after Alabama became a state. It was known then as Bethel of Tuscaloosa. It was formed by 16 Presbyterians who left Pendleton, SC, and settled on the banks of the Black Warrior River...
