The Binford Organ Recital Series presents...

Concert Organist, Lynne Davis, will perform in recital at the First Presbyterian Church of Tuscaloosa on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at 3:00pm.  Ms. Davis is American by birth, but lived and studied in France for almost 20 years.  She is respected in the international music world as an authority in all French organ repertoire.

Ms. Davis returned to the United Stated in 2006, and is a full professor at one of the most highly esteemed college organ programs in the country - the Wichita State University School of Music in Kansas.  She created a series of monthly 30-minute organ recitals, Wednesdays in Wiedemann, offered in the Wiedemann Concert Hall at the university, and there are multiple examples of these on her YouTube page. She travels extensively as a recitalist, and as well as teaching and encouraging young organists throughout the county for the American Guild of Organists.

The Tuscaloosa recital will feature music of French composers César Franck, Jehan Alain, Charles-Marie Widor, and Louis Marchand.  Also on the program are works by Dutch composer Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, a Samuel Barber setting of the hymn tune Wondrous Love, and the Fantasy and Fugue in G Minor by Johann Sebastian Bach.

Cameras and a screen will be set up at the church so audience members will experience Ms. Davis’ program visually as well as aurally.

This program is presented by “The Binford Organ Recital Series”, honoring First Presbyterian Church’s Organist Emeritus, Jeff Binford, who founded the recital series in 2016.

First Presbyterian Church is located at 900 Greensboro Avenue, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401. The church is known for its 75 rank Létourneau organ, installed in 2015.
