The Session of First Presbyterian Church hereby calls a Congregational Meeting to be held on Sunday, April 30th in the Sanctuary of the church, at the 11 a.m. Worship Service for the purpose of dissolving the Pastoral Relationship with Rev. Andy Spaulding and electing a new deacon for the class of 2026. Jan Slate is the Deacon nominee.

Be sure to stay after for a special reception in Warner Hall in honor of Rev. Spaulding.

Meet Jan:

Jan Slate has been a member of FPC since 2022 but had previously been a member when she first joined in 1983.  Jan is married to Kenny Slate and together they share 5 children and 9 grandchildren. Jan has 2 daughters Annah and Allison Cobb and granddaughter Peyton Cobb along with Kenny's 3 sons, Scott, Michael and Andrew Slate with 8 grandchildren Blanca, Michael, Elizabeth, Christopher, Mason, Roberto, Mario and Jack.

Jan worked for 29 years as a Social Worker/Mental Health Therapist beginning at Bryce Hospital in 1984. Much of her career was spent at Indian Rivers Mental Health Center where she worked for 18 years before retiring from the University of Alabama’s Brewer Porch Children's Center in 2016. 

Since retiring, she married her husband in 2017.  Together, they enjoy gardening, working in their yard, visiting their children and entertaining friends. Jan is a member of the Woodland Hills Garden Club.  At church she enjoys being a member of the McCain Sunday School Class which she had been a member of when she attended previously.
