International Peacemakers Visit FPC

First Pres welcomes Helivao Poget from Madagascar and Doug Tilton from Southern Africa.

They will join us for several activities during there visit and will lead a special adult Sunday School Class in the Westervelt Warner Chapel on Sunday, September 25th at 9:45AM.

Meet Helivao Poget

Helivao Poget is director of the Ministry for Marginalized People (SAFFIFAA) of the Church of Jesus Christ in Madagascar (FJKM) and teaches Missiology in an FJKM seminary. She previously served as an international peacemaker with the Presbyterian Peacemaking program in 2013 and now again in 2022.  Helivao is working to end human trafficking in Madagascar and elsewhere through prevention. She has come to realize that successful prevention efforts begin in addressing issues of domestic violence and poverty, issues that make women more vulnerable to being trafficked into a situation of forced labor or worse.

Meet Douglas J. Tilton

Doug is the PC(USA)’s Regional Liaison for Southern Africa, working with partner churches in South Africa, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Madagascar.  He has been in mission service since 1992, most of the time in South Africa.  Prior to 2005, Doug worked with the Parliamentary Office of the South African Council of Churches.  He holds a D.Phil in Politics from Oxford University.  Douglas.Tilton@pcusa.org
